WHERE ARE WE GOING NOW?

 Unfortunately as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, SLV.Global have gone into liquidation, and with their collapse- our Bali adventure along with it. But all hope is not gone. 

We have found this amazing company names Travelteer, and as of August 2021, we will be travelling to Sri Lanka on their brand-new mental health placement. And for transparency, this post is to tell you all about the work we will be doing out there. 

Based 50m from the sea front, we will be hosted in travelteer accommodation where we will be working on a Monday-Friday schedule with Sri Lankan professionals to build the concept of mental health- because not everyone is lucky to know what this actually is. We will be shadowing doctors in private hospitals and be involved in meetings where we will be talking through case files and be revealed into a completely alternative outlook to mental health. We will also be shown eastern therapies, which highlights the importance of a holistic outlook on recovery and management of a mental health condition. Some of these are to include;

-       Massages

-       Acupuncture

-       Yoga

-       Talking therapies

Not only this, but we will gain hands-on practical experience in a locally based disability-centre where there is a severe lack of funding and a large age bracket of 5-25 of service users. Here we will be hosting workshops, engaging in art therapy, sports and teaching basic English. 

 And again, I find it paramount to emphasise that this is not a holiday. This is very much a working placement where our first week (of four) will be a tour of Sri Lanka, to allow ourselves to settle into a new environment, learn some basics of the language, and work on our own mental wellbeing before helping that of others. We will be building our teams strong so that we can head into our placements as a strong, united force. 

 From the bottom of both our hearts, we would not be able to go on this adventure without you. We are still going to be fundraising as we need to make sure we arrive safely and equipped to help those who need it most.
